THRUST AREA

  • Microbial Bioremediation

  • Antimicrobial and Antibiofilm activities of natural compounds/products

  • Nanomedicine as Antibiofilm Therapeutics

The research often uptakes transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary studies in the form of educational purposes or for projects. However, the core themes of the research revolve around investigatory interventions of various novel and existing entities as antimicrobial and antibiofilm agents alongside nurturing microbial bioremediation and flourishing green nanotechnology. The studies include pathogenic, non-pathogenic bacterial and fungal strains to answer research questions.

Microbial bioremediation

Microbial bioremediation makes use of the metabolic activities of biofilm dwelling microbes , which are responsible for the majority of pollutant degradation in natural environment. Consortia of genetically modified microbes have been deployed to detoxify both organic and inorrganic pollutant and bacterial biofilm plays pivotal role in the natural environment of soil, aquifiers  and sediments.Using biofilms as a tool in bioremediation,  new technologies  are developing to remain environmentally sustainable.

Antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities of natural compounds/products

Biofilm prevents the penetration of drugs and the use of alternative therapeutics have emerged to be an efficient strategy in combating biofilm associated infection.

Nanoparticles as antibiofilm therapeutics

Nanomedicines have been emerged as efficient therapeutic to fight against the multi-drug resistant biofilm associated infections
